Blues in the Schools Program Launch

The Kansas City Blues Society is officially launching the Blues in the Schools which is a core program of the Blues Foundation and a staple of blues societies. The Blues in the Schools (BITS) program is an educational initiative designed to bring blues music, history, and culture into classrooms throughout the Kansas City and surrounding metropolitan communities. In collaboration with the Blues Foundation and regional blues societies, the program aims to deliver a best-in-class educational experience that highlights both the national significance of the blues and Kansas City’s deep blues musical roots.

The program will be led by KCBS Board member Larry Thrasher who will work to connect students with local musicians and educators through interactive workshops, live demonstrations, and curriculum-based instruction. The program will also work to develop youth musicians who may be interested in pursuing a career in blues music.

“Blues music tells the story of American history through sound,” said Larry Thrasher. “We’re excited to bring that story into classrooms and inspire the next generation.”

The Kansas City Blues Society invites educators, sponsors, and community partners to participate in building this impactful program.

To learn more or get involved, contact Larry Thrasher at blueskc.org@gmail.com or call (816) 863-3689.
