Review by Charles "Dutch" Metzker
This is the ninth album by the British blues-rock band Climax Blues Band, which was one of the many bands that came into existence during the mid to late 1960s British Blues revival, pioneered by Alexis Korner and John Mayall. The band plays a great selection of self-penned material, which mixes blues, rock and even soul, brilliantly executed with plenty of heartbreaking guitar and sax solos, as expected. This album includes the band’s greatest commercially successful single “Couldn’t Get It Right.” It’s considered one of the classics of the British blues-rock releases.
Side 1
Track 1 – Together and Free – nice horn section leading to a sentimental tune about the one that follows you through good and bad. 3:52
Track 2 – Mighty Fire – mellow instrumental that burns me to the ground indeed. 4:31
Track 3 – Chasing Change – funky tune reminds us that a dollar is a dollar for sure. 4:49
Track 4 – Berlin Blues – great piano work and by the way how many kids do you think there are chasing that guitar career? 3:35
Side 2
Track 1 – Couldn’t Get It Right – sad lament about looking for a better way through life. 3:19
Track 2 – Rollin’ Home – nice guitar work. I ain’t no angel for sure ,going home to my baby 3:10
Track 3 – Sav’ry Gravy – slow grinder, I wonder what the lyrics are alluding to? 4:56
Track 4 – Extra – upscale ending about going to need something… the older you get, the bigger you bet. 3:38
I have several of their albums, and just picked this one at random. I rate this 7 out of 10. Enjoy something different for the New Year! Happy New Year, everyone!
