This is the third of three articles introducing the artists performing at Blues in the Bottoms!
Southern Avenue is a twice Grammy-nominated blues and soul band that serves you high energy performances with a dazzling display of vocals and instrumentality. The band’s lead, Ori Neftaly, grew up in Israel and relocated to Memphis, TN, in 2013, where his band competed in the International Blues Challenge (IBC). Afterwards, he decided to relocate permanently to the U.S. Ori later met Tierinii Jackson who introduced him to her sister, a drummer, and they made the decision to become a band. They chose the name, Southern Avenue, in honor of a street in their hometown, Memphis. Their band also competed in the IBC in 2016. Less than a year after the band’s formation, they signed a recording contract with Stax Records.
Their music has been described as a unique blend of roots/blues-based guitar work, gospel-tinged R&B vocals, contemporary blues, music with a message, and soul-inspired songwriting.
The band is a favorite at blues festivals and concerts across the U.S. and internationally and have toured with many of the blues heavyweights.
We guarantee you an explosive night of just good ole blues music with Southern Avenue, Kent Burnside band, and Lightnin Malcolm.
